Then your slope, distance, area, and terrain analysis may not be accurate enough. In this video, I’ll show you how to correctly reproject a DEM in QGIS for better geospatial results. We start by checking the original DEM information, which is commonly stored in WGS 84 Geographic Coordinate System (EPSG:4326) using decimal degrees as units. While this is useful for global positioning, it is not ideal for precise measurements and terrain calculations. Next, I’ll demonstrate how to reproject the DEM into WGS 84 / UTM Zone 46N or Zone 47N, depending on your study area in Myanmar. UTM uses meters as units, making it much more suitable for: ✅ Accurate distance measurement ✅ Area calculation ✅ Slope and aspect analysis ✅ Hydrology and watershed modeling ✅ Better alignment with local datasets You’ll also learn how to compare the metadata of original DEM vs reprojected DEM, and how to choose the correct UTM zone for your location. 📌 If your project area is western Myanmar, use UTM Zone 46N. 📌 If your project area is eastern Myanmar, use UTM Zone 47N.
