This next month is probably going to be one of the hardest of my life. I’m about to have 3 of the biggest moments of my career yet, all tied to something I’ve been working toward for over 10 years. So obviously, the last thing I should be doing right now is going on vacation 😂 But I did the opposite. I finally planned the Tahoe trip that had been sitting in the besties group chat forever. We rented a giant Airbnb in the mountains, boated, made music, danced, made s’mores, played games for hours, laughed until we cried, shared our craziest dreams and some of the most vulnerable things we’re going through. And the craziest part is I wasn’t the only one who had no business taking the weekend off. Every single person there paused something BIG. Companies they’re building, preparing for the biggest launches of their careers, jobs at the biggest tech companies in the world reporting directly to CEOs…everyone had a reason they “should” be working. And everyone chose to be there. I think when you’re really ambitious, it’s easy to treat friendships as the thing you make time for after the work is done. But the work is literally never done. And I’m starting to realize that building these friendships might be one of the most important investments I make in my career. Because this is the group chat I want to be in when someone IPOs, sells their company, gets the C-suite job, starts another company, gets married, raises babies, changes their entire life and decides to chase an even crazier dream. Not just friends who “get it,” but friends who are actually living it alongside you. And getting to build that kind of community side by side with my partner makes it the most special. I got home from Tahoe and literally have one day before I fly out for 3 of the biggest moments of my career so far. And somehow, instead of feeling like I lost a weekend, I feel like I got back exactly the energy and stamina I’m going to need to make the next month count. So maybe the things that look like they’re taking you away from your career are sometimes the exact things that make the career worth building in the first place ❤️
