Did he deserve the slap? 😬😬 Meet Neko: An overweight cat in dire need of help but doesn't welcome any. He deifnitely wasn’t an easy groom. And yes, sometimes medication or sedation has its place. But sedating a cat every few months just to get them groomed isn’t something to take lightly either. The risk that they may never wake up from sedation is a possibility. Neko was already on vet-prescribed gabapentin, but he was still extremely defensive about being touched. His owner couldn’t even brush him, and the matting had reached a point where he needed help. And no, he wasnt forced to go through the entire groom nonstop. He was given intervals to rest throughout the process whenever he needed them. Once the severe matting from his underbelly was removed, surprisingly, Neko mellowed down a fair bit. We can’t know exactly what he was feeling, but severe mats can pull and tug on the skin. That discomfort could have been one reason he was so sensitive to touch in those areas. So was I rough? No. I was FIRM. When handling a defensive cat like this, firm doesn’t mean aggressive. It means controlled handling while constantly watching the cat’s response and knowing when to stop and give him a break (which he was given). Most importantly, by the end of the session, those severe mats were gone. He had no grooming injuries, settled down after the session and started eating almost immediately. Sometimes helping a difficult cat doesn’t look pretty on camera. It doesnt at all. That I agree. But this was never about making the groom look pretty. It was about helping Neko get the relief he needed, as safely as possible. ❤️ #housecallgroomer #catgrooming
