@kaybeearts: This comic was indeed inspired by a conversation about maintaining strong boundaries. I don't know if I'd say that I have a lot of self respect, but I definitely don't feel as bad about shutting people down and cutting them out of my life as I used to. I didn't take active steps to be more assertive. It sort of happened naturally over the course of many years of dealing with emotionally exhausting situations and people. I went through so many that my patience for BS was slowly sapped away until I was running on fumes.
