@lost.empire360: Norman Rockwell’s iconic painting, “The Shiner” (also known as “Girl with Black Eye”), created in 1953 for the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. The painting features a young girl, reportedly 10-year-old Mary Whalen, with a black eye and a mischievous smile, suggesting she was the victor in a schoolyard scuffle. It challenges the typical gender stereotypes of the era by portraying a strong and defiant female character, reflecting a theme of female empowerment. Scholars have drawn comparisons between the girl in the painting and Rosie the Riveter, another symbol of female strength during that period. Rockwell often used neighborhood children and friends as models for his works, including Mary Whalen for this particular painting. #normanrockwellart #painting #History #art #in
