🤢🐶 Pepcid can help some dogs but it’s not a cure-all. In Part 4 of my OTC meds for pets series, we’re talking about famotidine (Pepcid) and when it’s actually useful. Pepcid works by reducing stomach acid and may help with mild gastritis, reflux, or nausea. However, excess stomach acid is not the most common cause of vomiting in dogs, which is why Pepcid doesn’t always solve the problem. When veterinarians recommend Pepcid, a commonly referenced dose is 0.5–1 mg/kg by mouth every 12–24 hours. As always, dosing depends on your dog’s size, health, and the reason it’s being used. Consult a veterinarian to confirm the dosage is appropriate. Only give plain famotidine. Combination products may include other ingredients that are not safe for pets. If your dog has persistent vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain, or isn’t improving, Pepcid alone isn’t enough, and a veterinary exam is needed. 📚 Trusted resources: 🔗 Merck Veterinary Manual – Gastric Acid Suppressants: https://www.merckvetmanual.com/pharmacology/gastrointestinal-drugs/gastric-acid-suppressants 🔗 Veterinary Partner (VIN) – Famotidine Use in Dogs: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952906 🔗 PetMD – Famotidine for Dogs: https://www.petmd.com/dog/care/famotidine-dogs ➡️ Save this post and share it with a fellow pet parent. #thehonestvet #VetMed #PetCare #DogHealth
