@sd141414: Most multitenant architecture decisions get made fast, early, and without enough context. The shared vs. separate schema question looks technical. It is actually a business model question. It determines what you can promise in a security review 18 months from now. Make the call deliberately, or let a procurement team make it for you later.
I've seen companies sell Enterprise licenses worth 100k+ per year with a shared schema. Vendor security questionnaires rarely change the outcome.

are there any ideas how you would do this for PostgreSQL? i have multi tenant structure at place with schema isolation works great yet when the customer base grows the amount of schema will grow and this can cause the connection pools to get exhausted. how would you solve this?

I build literally everything multi tenant with tenant ID baked onto every table for plug and play sharding

I love all your videos. What do you recommend doing with all the info tho. Like do you have skills or aggregation of all this info somewhere? Like is the paid stuff on ur site all this info to give to an agent?

How about shared DB for lower tiers and whole DB for enterprise tier 🤷♀️

Separate db, same instance. DI the db at the edge. Internals of the app doesn’t care. No data leakage, easy to backup/restore individually. Small cost in managing connection pools.

So is logical isolation enterprise architecture?

Are you basically saying that individual schemas require inherent separation whereas shared schemas require other evidence of logical separation

Oh boy this is a sign. Seeing this means I have to plan the architecture for implementation gradually .

Full isolation is not worth it unless you’re a specific size and you can spin up and manage a separate managed instance for a client the revenue from which is worth the hassle (and I’m talking north of 500k annually)

Also when it comes to banks, you mostly need to isolate on hardware level as well

What do you think of PostgreSQL row level security instead of separate schemas?

Atlassian did database per tenant for their first go at cloud and it was a huge nightmare, had to rewrite it as a true multi tenant architecture. Just couldn’t get density otherwise, along with many other issues

I can say yes on PostgreSQL with RLS policies the only problem is platform users how to Give level of accesses

Nobody chooses shared schema. How is it easier to manage? It's harder to create (because you now have to think in the logical separation besides data), harder to manage(because you always have to take into consideration the tenant you are dealing with. That's like the perfect receipt for errors). The only thing it's easier is backup and migration. That's my opinion.
