@drpunamkrishan: If you are a mum who is always making sure everyone else is okay before you even think about yourself, this is for you❤️ One of the biggest things I see as a GP and as a mum is not that mums do not care about their health, it is that everybody else comes first. Children, partners, parents, work, the house, the endless list of things that need done. Somewhere along the way, your own needs quietly move to the bottom of the pile. Appointments get delayed, screenings are put off, symptoms are brushed aside and exhaustion becomes normal. Many women are carrying broken sleep, stress, the mental load of family life and the constant background changes of hormones, yet still expecting themselves to function as if nothing is happening. Over time that can leave women feeling drained, overwhelmed and unlike themselves, and often by the time they finally come in for help they are already running on empty. So consider this your reminder today. If there is an appointment you have been meaning to book, a smear or mammogram you need to rearrange, a symptom you have been worrying about or simply a feeling that you are not coping as well as you once were, please do not keep putting yourself last. Your health is not a luxury and it is not something to squeeze in once everyone else is sorted. You matter, how you feel matters, and looking after yourself is the foundation of everything else you are holding together ❤️ #motherhood #maternalhealth #themotherload

Saz :
Book the appointment sounds straightforward enough…sadly, the reality is you can’t see a GP (certainly in my west of Scotland area) and the triage calls are so tick boxed and unempathetic that honestly, trying to get an appointment is just another chore that we put off because it feels like such a challenge. That’s not the GPs fault, I’m not blaming them. But it’s the reality 🤷🏻♀️

I’ve been doing this and now my body is not working as it should. They think I might have rheumatoid arthritis and I’m not 50 yet. I have an autistic child and going through the menopause. My daughter has major anxiety and doesn’t sleep and needs constant reassurance , it’s just exhausting. I’m so tired

And for those of us who are carers to our mothers, this is exactly the same. Not out of choice.
