I pay $500 a month for our insurance through my work. $0 deductible and most things are covered 100%. I will be staying at this job until I die

I had to take my 20 month old to the local ER for appendicitis. The hospital 1 hour away wouldn’t do his surgery. We had to go 4 hours away to Kansas City. The er wanted to put him on a helicopter. 🙃 we took an ambulance ride instead. They wouldn’t let me take him myself. The bill is $5,000. I also want to point out that I would have been able to get him there sooner. I had to wait in the ER for 6 hours before the ambulance would be available for transport 🤪🤪🤪 he was stable the entire time btw so the risk for self transport would have been negligible. But no now I have major medical bills.

Insurance is the absolute worst “pay your deductible, and your out of pocket max and then you’ll FINALLY not have to pay anything” while still continuing to pay the monthly payment. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever

Trying to buy a insurance package when you are self employed is such a scam

We have good insurance and met our deductible prior to me giving birth however there is still an out of pocket thing you have to pay after you’ve met the out of pocket. Excuse me what?!

Working in medical billing has taught me to get cash pricing before saying you have insurance 😅 luckily we don’t give out pricing (usually done directly by the doctors office) butttt unless this was an in network doctor, they bill it to your insurance, they LEGALLY cannot discount it once they apply it toward your deductible 😞 but if she hadn’t had the surgery yet why can’t they give you the cash rate and not deal with insurance at all???? 😒 you’re paying out of pocket regardless with that deductible

As a Canadian I cannot fathom having to pay for this even after private insurance. That’s crazy.

Think of it this way though… why is it okay for the provider to charge you less without insurance when it costs the same with or without insurance. insurance company didn’t set the prices… the provider does.

Insurance is only good incase something dramatic happens. Like for example I needed a random brain surgery. Total cost was $199k. They covered $197k. It sucks.

girl the best choice we made was being uninsured for a year to see the difference. we paid WAY less without insurance in that year then we did WITH. plus a lot of hospitals / offices/ specialists have relief options that end up being cheaper then it would be WITH insurance. such a shit show :((((

I dunno my insurance through my employer is pretty good. I pay 120 dollars a month. And max out of pocket is 3k a year. We would have gone bankrupt after my cancer diagnosis on Jan 2nd if I hadn’t had insurance
