I despise PETA, but they are right on this one. I worked in pet care at PetSmart for 5 years & HATED selling things like goldfish & bettas to people cuz they didn't care about them at all because they were cheap so if it 💀 "oh well". Drove me NUTS! They'd get the feeder goldfish & I'd ask what size tank they had & they'd say a bowl. I told them they didn't go in bowls & needed a large tank to be healthy. They'd say "well they only live for 6 months anyway." I'd then say "If they're properly cared for, they're supposed to live for at least 10 years." But they didn't care. It made me so mad!

I got my cat one as a toy doesn't mean it's not also properly taken care of. and as far as pets go it's definitely low maintenance. low maintenance doesn't mean not maintaining their environment food and health
