per diem translates to "by the day" in latin and in this case refers to a daily allowance of cash the company gives you to do whatever with. gas, food, goods etc. if you make 25 an hour with per diem that is a very solid deal

The 45/300/145 day is per diem which is food, housing and fuel. It adds up and even is hourly is low that per diem is often tax free!
