@playtoybunny: A building was constructed in the 1850s and was used to house “lazy, able bodied, and willingly dependent applicants.” Poor farms were common in those days. The residents that housed there were provided food and shelter in exchange for labor on the farm and in the facility. It wasnt just a home for those who were low income, but also a home for elderly and disabled people, who had no family. They were forced to share their residence with incurable clinically insane patients, which caused many problems in the “Poor Farm”. The patients were referred to as “Inmates”, and tho some were discharged or left from the facility, most passed away. When patients passed away, they would be released to their families, but those who didnt have families he/she would be buried in a pauper cemetery that resides on the property, but there are rumors that some bodies were buried throughout other spots of the property. In 1910 the “Poor Farm” was closed and even demolished, and lead to the build of Edinburgh Manor, which was done being constructed in 1911. And once again, the Manor opened the doors to the insane, disabled, poor, and elderly. The Manor held operation until 2010, the Community Care stated that the Manor was unsuitable for inhabitants. The patients got transferred to a different hospital, and Edinburgh Manor was abandoned. Later, the owner talked about turning it into a bed and breakfast, but the property was just too unsafe and needed lots of work to be safe again. The new owners, Cindy and her husband, wanted to restore the Manor into its former glory but while they were working on the property they encountered many strange experiences. After multiple occurrences, in 2012 they decided to open up the facility for paranormal overnight stays and daytime tours. Edinburgh Manor is rumored to be the most haunted buildings in the Midwest, and possibly even the entire country. With multiple documented deaths being one of the reasons there is so much paranormal activity, we also have to remember unhappy places attract negative entities. There was overcrowding in tiny rooms, lack of personnel, a padded room and restraints in order to manage patients, sexual assault; be it resident/resident or staff/resident. Medical files, personal belongings such as clothes, shoes, bedding, toys, etc. Its all still there! Imagine the energy they hold! The first floor is haunted by several spirits. One is a playful little girl, named Susie. She loves to sing, laugh, and loves to run down the hallways. She loves to play with the toys in room 106, and may even hold your hand. At one point she told paranormal investigators that she was “just dropped off there.” There is also a spirit of a man, he resides in room 121, but will stroll down to room 108. It’s believed that this man committed suicide in what is now know as a Janitors closet, but was once his very tiny bedroom. He hung himself with a sheet on the doorknob. In room 105, as you enter and look to the bed in the corner on your right, you may feel like you have a “bad feeling”. it is believed that this one was a scene of a very brutal rape between a resident and staff. On the second floor, while the current owner was sleeping in room 200, he felt someone was squeezing his toe. Later, his friend investigated the room and got an EVP saying “i grabbed you”. At the top of the stairwell a woman in a white dress is seen often, usually between noon and 2pm. And in room 204, a toy firetruck has been seen moving and put into other rooms. The basement is haunted by two male ghost. One is a tall man wearing a cowboy hat and a long coat. And the second entity is nicknamed “The Joker”. He touches people, leaves marks, and throws dishes on the floor. Hes a tall, slender man with a crazy smile on his face. He wanders various rooms but is mostly seen in the padded room. It’s believed that he committed suicide in that room by hanging himself. You can book a day tour and/or an overnight tour! Would you stay the night here? 👀
