At high speed, water doesn’t have time to move out of the way, it behaves almost like a solid surface for that split second. This creates a sudden resistance, which is why the impact feels so sharp. Normally, when you dive properly, your body enters the water at an angle, reducing resistance and allowing you to slip through more easily.
