wealth funds should come from a surplus....Canada is in debt so the wealth funds will be borrowed money that taxpayers will be paying for.

I'd love to see improved interprovincial transportation like a high-speed rail in particular feels long overdue. Canada is a vast nation, and our ability to move people and goods efficiently across it directly affects our competitiveness. Better infrastructure attracts businesses and newcomers alike, which broadens the tax base and reinvests back into the economy, a cycle that benefits every region. A sovereign wealth fund could be exactly the kind of long-term vehicle needed to fund that vision without depending solely on annual budgets.

Carney specifically mentioned the Singapore's Temasek as a model. Temasek invests in high tech and strategic industries that has transformed their economy. A lot of people in his gov't are former execs at the Maple 8 pension funds, like CPPIB and CDPQ, so probably will be structured similarly and invest in infrastructure and growing Canadian companies.

I'M UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS TOPIC. Personally I'm against military expansion, do these funds go towards military expansion up north? Or is that a seperate fund? I think I need more details, although this effort seems good for Canada. What kind of guardrails are there!? Lots of questions but cautiously optimistic on it.

It's still a lot better than investing into US. Even though it brings personnal profits, It's the US that benefits the most in the end. It's a good initiative. not great, but good and in line with the other policies being put in place.
