@women_helping_women: Racism is prejudice PLUS POWER. It is a SYSTEM — built deliberately, maintained institutionally, enforced legally and economically for over four hundred years. This week gave us a perfect real-world example. Houston Police Officer Ashley Gonzalez was fired after a viral video showed her using the N-word and saying she hated Black people. The slurs alone? Prejudice. But then she said — “Let me get a Black person on a 911 call tomorrow. You’re going to jail.” She connected her hatred to her BADGE. That is where prejudice became racism — and she proved it herself, out of her own mouth. Firing her was right. But she is not an anomaly. She is a product of a system that does not ask the right questions about who it hires or what culture it protects. One officer gets fired. The system that made her stays in place. Watch. Share.
