@cbsmornings: “We live in a culture that denies death."" Sarah Brabant, a 93-year-old former professor of death and dying, is now living the lessons she once taught after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She declined treatment, accepted hospice and tells her former student @davidbegnaud she is focused not on a timeline, but on each day. #lesson #aging #death #dying #lifelesson

She taught me freshman sociology back in the fall semester of 1997. I've thought of her many times since, wondering if she was still here. She's such a rare gem. I remember this very topic being taught in one of her lectures.

this is a 100000% accurate. as a critical care trauma nurse VERY FEW people have discussions about death. about how far they want thwir medical care to go. and EVERYONE is terrified of death. let me tell you, death is NOT the worst thing that could happen to you!

As a retired Hospice nurse, I so enjoyed watching this… she is beautiful and amazing. And she is absolutely correct, we do not, in this culture, talk about death. And yet each and every one of us will experience death, and the death of those we love.

She said “no one saved her”. I would argue, she saved herself.

What an amazing interview! The death and dying class should be taken by everyone, especially those in healthcare. It’s a topic we don’t discuss but it’s the one thing everyone will experience.

I’m a hospice nurse. These cases are my favorite because the experience is so beautiful. The whole point of hospice is to really live until you die.
