Ok, so here’s the deal. The evidence linking dairy and sugar to acne is STRONG. Sadly, there actually isn’t any evidence at all that positively links sugar to anything, but alas, we must live and enjoy! The evidence linking eggs to acne is limited, but if you do have a sensitivity to them and/or your digestive/detox processes need support (think gut, liver, lymphatic system), then they could be causing your skin some persistent issues. This is by no means intended to demonize any one category of food and I don’t believe certain foods have to be eliminated strictly and forever… But doing so in the short term to gather data and investigate potential root cause acne triggers is worthwhile. And sometimes supporting digestive and/or detox pathways can allow you to re-introduce high-quality eggs or dairy, for example, with no issues. So, if you think you’re doing everything right for your skin and are still struggling, it might be worthwhile to temporarily eliminate these top triggers (sugar, dairy, eggs) for a few months, before slowly bringing them back in one at a time to see if/how they flare your skin.
