How do I find a flat fee advisor? We have a 1% now and I want to get out, but the way they have our stuff set up is so confusing that I need someone to help us understand where all our money is at and help us get control of it. I am having a VERY hard time finding any flat fee advisors near me.

My financial advisor get paid from the MIR that I would have to pay if I bought the same ETF or mutual fund myself.

I have around $600,000 being invested at a credit union at 1% cost. Where can I invest it without paying that fee?

This is kind of a straw man. Almost none of them claim that this is their main value proposition. They claim it’s to avoid emotional selling and a lot of people frankly need that

I pay my FA a lot per year. I have been with him for 7 years. He has made me a lot of money. It's money well spent in my opinion. I hope he enjoys his beach house as much as I enjoy mine.

You’re generalities are outrageous. Advisers are not just buying 3 EFTs. Most to diversified equity portfolios that sometimes include laddered bonds etc. all because you’re a sales advisor doesn’t mean we were all bad

I can appreciate what you're saying but that works for people that understand what's happening and can confidently make decisions/ understand what their hourly advisors are saying. easy for an industry professional like yourself, but more difficult for the average person without an investment background

The argument “but I could have…“ doesn’t work in reality because 90% of people won’t invest without an Adviser motivating them into consistent action.

I'm happy to pay an expert a few % to make me more money... especially when I don't have the time or experience myself. 1 or 2% for consistent net 18%+ returns is ok with me.

Most people don’t really understand Vanguard funds. Ask someone with no investment knowledge where they’d put their money and you’ll usually get a pretty random answer. As an IFA, I can see why some people feel those funds aren’t doing much—but my portfolios are built very differently. They’re genuinely diversified, combining both active and passive strategies, and backed by proper advice. That means planning around inheritance tax, managing capital gains, and—most importantly—structuring things so clients don’t run out of money.
