@corporatedropout_mom: High performers struggle when they are managed by a micromanager. The high performer is focused on efficiency, solving problems and getting things done well. The micromanager thrives on control. They want constant approvals, check ins and to be kept in the loop at all times. The tension between these two builds quickly as does the frustration. High performers are not meant to be managed that closely. In this situation a high performer starts questioning themself when really it’s the environment they are working in. The right place won’t control how you work. They will trust you to do it! #corporatelife #highperformer #careeradvice #effectiveleadership #officelife
Reporting to a micromanager is the most demotivating thing.

I finally said to my boss, “I experiencing a lot of confusion about the micromanagement I’m getting, because it signals a level of distrust that I haven’t earned. Have I not met expectations on deadlines or projects?” and it allllll stopped immediately.

I was the high performer. I've been micromanaged down to a B+ level and I don't care to exceed anymore.

Micromanagers thrive on checklists and daily check-ins rather than productivity.

Oh, there’s no clash necessary. The high performer makes a plan way ahead of time to jump ship to a better company. That decision takes less than a couple seconds upon the first pattern detection of micromanaging. The high performer has no time or patience for dealing with incompetent leadership.

it creates confusion and lack of support. I'm being micromanaged but they want me to be independent. you want me to reach out but you said dont hold your hand. or when I am independent it's my fault because I was suppose to knows what they expected 😒

My boss started dictating what I do and when. I used to be able to get it all done and have down time. Now everything is behind.

I can't prove it, but I believe micromanagers find joy in breaking down spirit of high performers. They delay projects through "checks", which are unnecessary but definitely increase timelines to completing tasks

People who micromanage are wanting control over the results They see the team’s effort as theirs to “sell” for their career advancement Plus they don’t understand that constant updates are time consuming so you end up working excess hours without being paid only to “satisfy” the micromanager Nope this is toxic and draining

Is a micromanager’s goal to cause turnover by being overbearing? It doesn’t seem practical at all and usually hurts business

As a high performer who got hired by a relaxed macromanager - I’ve never thrived so well! She sets lofty goals, says “go” and trusts me to get it done. No check ins. No obnoxious inefficiencies. Just an occasional, “oh hey, did you get xyz done?” “Yep, last week.” “Awesome.” We have absolute trust and confidence in one another and our team. If she retires, I don’t know what I’ll do. lol
