Oh you just have to accidentally imprint fabric, or get a hair into it. It dries instantly

Nail polish contains the polish and a solvent that keeps it from drying out. When you apply it, the solvent evaporates, causing the polish to dry. When you apply a new layer, the solvent breaks down the layer beneath it, allowing both layers to bond, but softening both layers. Body heat helps the solvent evaporate, but fingertips get remarkably little blood flow, and, especially with longer or acrylic nails, the polish is further away from the source of heat, so evaporation takes longer. Toenails, which are shorter and generally smaller, have less solvent to evaporate and are closer to your body heat, so will dry faster. Also, evaporated solvent is still solvent, and unless the air/you are moving, the evaporated solvent will just hover in place above your nails, softening the polish and delaying further evaporation. This is why it is common to shake or blow on nails after applying a fresh coat. Further, the pigment in polish settles to the bottom of the bottle over time, so if you don't shake it thoroughly enough, there will be more solvent on your brush, meaning you apply less pigment and your nails dry more slowly. So: shake the bottle thoroughly, apply thin, even layers, allowing dry time between layers, and if you're desperate to speed up the process, use a low-powered fan on your fingies. Add a top coat as a protective layer, and you should be good to go.

I will paint my nails in the late morning, let it dry. Do nothing. Go to bed. Wake up with fabric printed into my nail polish. Now it's completely dry.

I found that sometimes when you put another coat of nail polish it literally melts the one below it….

no matter what I do. no matter the prep, the brand, the amount of time between layers or how thin each one is. I could have a hair dryer pointing at it for 10 minutes. itll never dry.

dont wait between the color coats. every time you add polish its just going to cause the layed under it to become wet again. 1. base coat. wait 1 minute 2. add 2 to 3 coats of polish. after last coat wait 1 minute 3. add quick dry top coat. wait one hour to do anything that involves contact with the nails. do this preferably before bed

Don’t wait an hour… when you put a coat over a dried coat, you’re rehydrating what’s already dry.

I once painted fake nails for a costume 2 WEEKS before the event, I put them on the evening before, I wake up, imprints on ALL the nails.

This may seem like a weird question, that sounds unrelated, but are you by chance hypermobile? I’ve seen people that are hypermobile have problems with polish. My nails have ridges and even smoothing them out the polish doesn’t stay.

Oil on your nails babe. Strip them with acetone, rubbing alcohol or nail prep dehydrater right before. Use a quick dry base coat.

15 years ago nail polish dried very quickly and stayed in place. Now I feel like a lot of nail polish just never actually dries fully. It is still soft and will get pushed around on my nails even if it has been like 12 hours
