I guess I'm having trouble figuring out if I'm at that point. I've been afraid to reach out to ask if they would consider and they have definitely not reached out to me. they have followed and unfollowed me on social media they have responded a little bit with I hope you're okay too but no talk of even considering starting again 21 years 8 months since the breakup. those 21 years were spent 24 hours a day 7 days a week we worked together as well

At that point, you can stop calling them "burnt-out pursuer". There's another more common label: Ex. 😢

Honestly, if you do everything right in your mind then it’s still smothering cuz you’re ultimately doing it for them. The one pursuing needs to give them space at that point and not talk to them. One sided growth and work for the sake of salvaging a relationship is all fake and not authentic change or organic change. Those changes aren’t authentic since the person doing them wouldn’t be doing them if he/she wasn’t desperate to save their relationship. Bottom line: make him / her miss you and move in silence.
