So much this. I grew up in a very evangelical family, was homeschooled, etc. When my views started to change, I actually started going back to church. But the church I randomly chose because it was close to me was an "open and affirming" church who loved and accepted EVERYONE. They were aggressively protective and loving toward the LGBTQ+ community and encouraged free thinking and doubt. Not because they were trying to proselytize but because they felt the only way to be a true follower of Christ was to do so from a place of knowledge, choice, and your own desire to do so and not out of guilt and persuasion. I no longer attend that church or believe in God, but that church awoke my cursiosity. I used to exclusively read fiction. The last couple years I've mostly been reading nonfiction. And the reason is entirely curiosity. I want to learn and to know the things I don't know and wasn't allowed to learn.

Trump, in his speeches, will outright say “don’t believe the experts” and “I’m the only one telling you the truth” and just like that their hypnosis is reinforced and they will believe no one but him, the Dear Leader. Fox also has its narratives they hit every day and every hour: immigrants and minorities are criminals and can’t be trusted, Democrats are trying to destroy America and your family, all trans people are to be feared, CEOs and billionaires are always to be believed and trusted and unions are not…basically lies, lies, and more lies, but when the billionaires are paying for the propaganda telescreen that’s what you’ll get. And what they don’t lie about they hide from their viewers.
