I’ll never get why people are bothered by this. Just select no tip and move on with your day. I’ll still always over tip at sit down restaurants because I used to be a waitress and I know first hand how hard that job is

in Florida, a restaurant called Ford's Garage is now paying their servers $0.01/hr. The servers are given commission as compensation instead. And the 'service charge' goes to the establishment and not the servers. So no tips! (and low wages . . . )

It's kind of spreading to Europe because our banking terminals run the same software as the american terminals and an "add tip?" Screen has become common in restaurants and bars

Netherlands 🇳🇱 here: we usually round up our total in a sit down restaurant. That’s it. But in an internationally oriented city as Amsterdam we do see the stupid tipping options pop up. I refuse. We’re not playing that game. It’s gonna lead to Americanization. There’s nothing American we want for our society. Sorry.

I'll tip service workers. However if you're just cashier where all you did was turn 3 steps and grab me a water, I'm not tipping for that. If you have your own business that I am ordering from, I'm not tipping you. You LITERALLY control what prices you have. Its actually insane to me.

Hey, there is a hidden force of capitalism at work here. The companies that give you those tap to pay systems, they are credit card processing companies. There is no option to not allow tip as the default because if you add tip, they process more money meaning they get paid more.

In one of my first jobs, my boss told me, "You're paid well, and providing good customer service is the least you can do for this job." And they really did pay well, and some clients even would "reward" us with a soft drink or some cookies, but whether I paid for my meal or not didn't depend on that kindness.
