Definitely not. The point and shoot market is cooked. Worse image quality too. Definitely bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you’re going on holiday you want the photos to be good.

I AM a tourist. Why on earth would I be bothered if other people think I'm a tourist.

Honestly, almost all small, compact cameras are not much different than an iPhone. Might as well take raw pictures with your iPhone and edit them if you don’t want to carry a mirrorless camera. Here’s an example shot on iPhone 13:

Or buy a camera in a smartphone body. Either is great choice. Its not about camera, its about how you'll be using it.

Every trip. Every occasion. For some of us, our cameras are more than just tools we bring for paid wedding and portrait work. It’s an extension of us. Just have to be mindful when traveling.

backpacker of 15 years (around 70 countries) here 👋 as a Hobby Photographer I always travel with my big camera. Yes it's heavy but the pictures are so much better. if you only document your travel a small camera is fine. If you want to take breathtaking shots of wildlife around the world, you need a big lense. so it completely depends on the purpose of your travel. if I pay good money to travel to Socorro and dive there, I bring my underwater case too 😅

I’ve been to 100 countries with my Lumix G9 full-size camera. You know what I found if you have a full-size camera people will let you take a picture of them and we’ll ask you to take a picture of them. When you have a mini camera, nobody cares. So it’s hard to get good shots.

I used to carry my DSLR and three expensive lenses. I got so tired of lugging around the weight, worrying about theft and eventually realized I wasn’t enjoying my trip as much because I was too worried about getting the right photo. Switched to phonography and I’ve been so much happier
