Channing Tatum Faces His Most Emotional Role Yet as a Father Trying to Help His Daughter Heal Channing Tatum is taking on one of his most emotional roles yet, playing a father desperate to help his young daughter feel safe again after she witnesses a traumatic crime. In the upcoming drama Josephine, Tatum stars alongside Gemma Chan as parents struggling to understand what their 8-year-old daughter is going through. Mason Reeves makes her feature film debut as Josephine, whose life changes after witnessing a brutal crime in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The newly released trailer opens with Josephine sitting in a courtroom before showing the family’s life and the emotional struggles that follow. Her father encourages her to build strength, while her mother tries to help her understand how to cope with her pain. “There will be so many people that will hurt you. But it is your responsibility to fix your own pain,” Chan’s character tells her daughter. But Josephine’s experience continues to follow her. During the trailer, a therapist asks whether she has told anyone else what she saw. Josephine later describes seeing a ghost everywhere, suggesting that the memory continues to affect her daily life. Written and directed by Beth de Araújo, the film explores the psychological impact of witnessing a violent crime, not only on a child but also on the parents trying to protect her while facing their own fears. Josephine premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The film is scheduled to open in limited theaters on November 20 before expanding nationwide on December 4.
