A doc fee is not normal, if you list a doc fee on my deal . I’m going to walk, I’m not going to pay a guy to do his job that the dealership should be paying him.

Why as a customer are we paying a doc fee? Isn’t that just part of doing business? People saying that the dealership needs to be paid for their time are the same ones complaining about what plumbers, electricians and hvac technicians charge.

I just bought a truck for cash they waived doc fee. I asked if they had the title and if there was a lien on it the guy said the title was in the office and there was no lien I told him to sign it and I would take care of the rest. Took the title to the county treasurer and it only cost me $40.00

@Michael Clarke: Not all dealerships charge a doc fee. I was selling new cars in the 80s. It is a way for a dealership to pad gross profit in a way they hide it, and also not have to pay the salesman commission on. It all started back then.

If you want to sell me a car I shouldn’t have to pay for you to do paperwork. I work in healthcare. I do not charge for paperwork I have to do.

Doc fees are not mandatory. I haven’t paid one in my last 2 transactions. Dealers won’t give up a sale over $500. Push back

Filing all of the paperwork takes about 30 minutes. If the DOC fee is $500, that $1,000 an hour.
