this is a training thing. the sales team at this dealership are trained to be "challenging" to work with on the phone so people will come in.

the whole thing. if you come in you have more leverage. tell them the deal on the phone is $X. but if I have to come in then it is going to be $2000 more off that it will require to close a deal.

The problem is that a lot of dealerships get lookie-loos calling in asking about cars they have no intention of buying. So they’re trained to “get people into the dealership” so it shows that they’re actually interested in buying a car.
