@tismbrainrot: Okay this is a long one but it’s something that I’m really passionate about obviously and I wish I could process things faster to be able to have these conversations in person. I think it’s important to share and shame because while this may be a topic of interest that we deep dive into as autistic individuals the rest of the world doesn’t. #mentalhealthmatters #adhd #autismacceptance #fyp #autismawareness
The way that question comes up is basically asking for proof 🙁

I study psychology and recently got my diagnosis and still feel like i "tricked" the person into giving me one (bc of my knowledge about it), but it makes sense bc it showed in my childhood (i consider myself still a child bc im only 19) 😂

Dude it took me 5 years, 4 long sessions, and $1000 out of pocket to get diagnosed. I'm not doing that again 😂

People don’t understand that autism is a vast spectrum. Not a scale, a spectrum, meaning each person takes on different aspects and in different quantities, and some aspects may not appear at all. Also, they hear “autism” and automatically assume you’re either completely socially inept and perhaps have a child like mental acuity, or are like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory and a genius. Most people don’t truly understand what autism actually is.

It’s more important to know how your own brain works than getting a diagnosis. This makes you more self aware and more able to engage in self care. That is the point.

If people only knew how long you have to wait, how expensive diagnosis is … not to mention how exhausting it is …. They might just stop questioning

there is no single thing that “makes me” autistic (+adhd), it this giant combination of countless tiny things that happen over and over again, that shape me in ways i can’t really explain and there’s just so much to talk about because it affects all of my experiences. no way in hell i can (or want to!) give someone an accurate representation of my inner workings just to explain.

thats so exhausting. It is not just a random person that diagnoses you. In .y case I had two assessors and then they wrote a report after and consulted woth their peers about their conclusion to see if they agree before they got back to me. Apprently it wasn't even a hard conclusion in my case yet people love to question it

this is why I need a pye chart to show my Autisitic personality so i can go .. look see in a second rather than 1. me feeling precirved & panicing 2. me feeling lesser & thinking I am making up my own autism.
3. i can remember all the different aspects of my autisum through a medium I can nativate because interacting with people isnt one

I have the flavor that makes it so I can have my answer perfectly planned out in my head but then the other person doesn’t follow the script so it all disappears from my brain and I just end up sounding like idk what I’m talking about 😅

I wish there was a “pause” remote for so many moments in life to give me more time to think and process. I’ve been forced to make peace with lots of under-par replies and answers that feel unsatisfying or make me seem “dumb” to others.

I got my diagnosis as AuDHD only 9 months ago, I am guilty of saying everyone is a little autistic but now experiencing the unmasking, rewiring my brain, remembering childhood memories where I was overstimulated but looked at as being “bad”, etc… I understand why its belittling to say that, autism can be invisible to others but we are constantly trying to navigate the world in a way that is acceptable

I think you didn’t réalise that you just had to tell them « oh it’s difficult to answer to that type of question, but I Will send you a video to explain why it is difficult if you want to understand » because that’s exactly what I Will do now with your video !!!! 👌 You sum up ALL the problem with these question / réaction (all the same by the way….despite they all think they discover the moon when they asked…) and I have got that rush too 😂 thanks 😁 from France

Can somebody tell me why I tell everyone I meet that I have Autism, I mean I do it because I feel guilty about it that I don’t want to be judged by the things I do but I really want to stop to say that because it just feels off and people judge me even more
