irrevocable living trust means it can't desolved. revocable living trust can be dismantled by anyone who contest it.

I work for an estate planning attorney. Do not try to make your own revocable living trust. Use a professional. If it doesn’t comply with the laws of the state you live in it will not be valid

As somebody who works with life insurance, it is imperative that if you want the trust to be the designated beneficiary of any life insurance payouts, make sure that the policies reflect that. Because if a person is the beneficiary and it’s designated on a policy, a will or trust does not supersede that. And most group policies pay in what’s called the order of priority: Spouse, children, parents, siblings, estate. So the rule is make sure your beneficiaries are always updated.

Seek counsel for the state you live in. I agree to protect and plan but stuff like this isn’t a one size fits all.

Placing life insurance in a revocable trust doesn’t remove it from the estate. That makes the proceeds taxable when the beneficiaries die. Put it in an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT). Creditor protection, out of the estate, distribution control, and spendthrift provisions. All good things. A lawyer will charge you to set up the trust.
