Ethiopia was one of the first African countries to stand firmly with Nelson Mandela in the fight against apartheid. In 1962, Mandela secretly traveled to Ethiopia, where he received military training and political support. Ethiopia, under Emperor Haile Selassie, believed in African unity and the liberation of oppressed people. During his time there, Mandela gained strength, skills, and encouragement that helped shape his leadership in the struggle for freedom in South Africa. Ethiopia also supported liberation movements across Africa, showing its commitment to justice and independence. Ethiopia’s support for Mandela is a powerful example of African solidarity, courage, and unity in the fight against oppression.
