@henryfudgeofficial: High-trust societies are built on the fundamental assumption that people are generally good, and that cooperation will happen naturally. The evidence supports that. This channel runs on the same assumption. I give you the data, I give you my opinion, and I assume you’re capable of following along. A million views later, we’re discussing macroeconomics and data-driven policy on a platform people dismiss as silly little videos. Lead with the assumption. You get the result, it works like a charm. Behavioural economics and data driven policy can quite easily change our outcomes and get us what we want, a high trust society, that achieves its macro economic objectives. #ukeconomy #ukpolitics #economics #macroeconomics #costofliving

Additionally, the only reason they may not contribute would be fear of not having enough. Giving £10 into a system when you only have £20 and food costs £12 is a massive risk; donating £10 when you've got £40 and food costs £5 is nothing.
Sharing is human nature, capitalism enforces greed through desperation.

So, shall we just all start being good and assuming people are good? It’ll save us money funnily

I fully support helping out the occasional grifter if it means giving life changing help to the majority that is people in need. I never understand punishing people for being stuck in a bad situation. What is society for if not lifting each other up. We all do better when we work together.

Hear me out: the “economists” who theorised these things were selfish people, assuming everyone else was selfish like them, hence capitalism.

once is started assuming people are good by nature and want to be good. I became a lot less anxious and a lot less paranoid. my life quite literally turned around and I am much happier now.

This is why people leave bad managers in work as well. People aren’t treated as if they are competent and loose the desire to do good work because what’s the difference in outcome, treated poorly either way.

There's an idea that humans would instinctively revert to greed because of "human nature" when in reality it's usually the opposite left to our own accord most communities collaborate and share be that with resources or time and effort through say willingly looking after someone else's kids or whatever. Most societies were built on the collective not hyper individualism

The same goes for parenting too. The best way to get respect from your kids is to treat them with respect yourself first

Honestly an amazing take. I’m personally working on my own mentality to overcome the conditioning I suppose. I’m not infallible but on the whole I treat people with more empathy and understanding.

Interesting post. When Emerson was a young man, he wrote his often quoted essay on self reliance. It struck a chord with me when I was a teenager, but when I re-read it when I was about 45, it was patently absurd. I like to think when he got older, Emerson became wiser; he wrote about community.

I live somewhere I consider very high trust. So high trust that roadside stands selling things like produce, baked goods, firewood, bouquets etc are very common. My first TikTok about it went viral and hundreds of people couldn’t believe a place existed that allowed such a phenomenon. I found that kind of sad.
