we hired plumbers, they cut a hole in our 2x12 joist, leaving an inch of wood at the top and bottom. it was a window for them to reach through while running new pipes.... needless to say they had to bring in a structural engineer before they could do any more work to get paid...

If someone cut the bottom of the joist on a finished house, how do you repair it? Remove Sheetrock and sister it? If that’s a possibility do you sister the entire length or partial?

I just reinforced a floor joist in my basement. Using 3/4 structural plywood ripped to same width as original cracked joist. I was fortunately able to remove the 3 romex electrical lines to do a full 8 foot reinforced section with a butt joint and fish plate. Then re drilled through the original holes to reinsert the romex lines.
