1.) My Virginity. I bought into purity culture and that it made me special and more desirable. I didn’t “lose it” til age 27. Even now at age 35 my relationship with sex is complicated. That’s sad. Valuing virginity in women treats their worth like it’s based on ONE thing: if they had sex or not. Instead of who they are. I still see it in the way we talk about women even in mainstream culture. 2.) Not drinking or partying. I’m not saying YOU should drink or party, but me looking down at people who did and thinking I was better than “these lost sheep” was wrong and frankly embarrassing now. 3.) Being “nice” and making people happy. I think it’s good to be nice. But not when you’re putting your family, societies, or religions “happiness” or rather COMFORT above your own. I compromised myself into near non existence. Following the rules, getting married in the Mormon church, trying to be a good wife until “Alyne” almost didn’t exist anymore. This is your sign to allow yourself to be a little more YOU. Even if you disappoint someone else. Dont. Disappoint. YOURSELF.
