There has been a massive semantic shift/dilution of the title “engineer” for awhile I think. While Growth Engineer can sit under the umbrella of software engineering and intersect with analysis-driven marketing, I do think there will be a more concerted effort in the traditional engineering disciplines to codify what qualifies as “Engineer” via stricter adherence to PE licensure or some other way possibly. Regardless I don’t think it should be thrown around- could create confusion in the labor pool and salary ambiguity, especially for women in both fields. Marketing should be respected and so should engineering.

In from Poland, where, as you said, the title of engineer is a protected one. It's a title awarded to those who in "English" terms have Bachelor of Sciences or Engineering. It's tried to a practical skillset, basics of maths and usually required practice in the field. We often are required to do projects as our thesis, not just write a text. As compared to "regular" bachelors who have more theoretical and strictly academic knowledge. This standard should be applied all over the world

in chile everybody is an engineer, we have classical engineering jobs and then we have "Tourism engineer" "Business engineer" "Marketing engineer"

It’s because the average business person that doesn’t work in marketing doesn’t know what marketing is and confuses it with making communication material. Sometimes even marketers don’t know what it means. It’s much easier to just call myself „quant“ or some other nonsense than trying to change people’s preconceptions.
