That is not the truth. Afghanistan has continued to exist as a state; it was not a collection of city-states. The First Anglo-Afghan War was fought in 1839, so how exactly did you come to the conclusion that Afghanistan didn’t exist and that its borders were drawn by the British and Russians? A country does not need modern, fixed borders to exist; many states throughout history had fluid frontiers but were still recognized political entities with rulers, administration, and continuity.
Afghanistan had centralized authority and political identity long before foreign intervention. The fact that major powers like Britain and Russia engaged with it diplomatically and militarily is itself proof that it was recognized as a state. Yes, Russia and Britain managed to conquer or influence certain Afghan territories, but that does not mean the state itself did not exist, it only shows that it was pressured and reshaped by imperial forces, as many other countries were during that era.
Reducing Afghanistan’s history to something “created” by outsiders ignores its internal political structures, its rulers, and its long-standing presence in the region. It’s a misunderstanding of how states and borders historically developed.

Afghanistan existed long before that with multiple names including Ariana. The name Afghanistan was given to it by Afghan ruler Ahmad Shah Durani and his empire included many parts of current Iran, Central Asia and India including now Pakistan.

What is then the likelyhood that Iran and Afghanistan would reunite, this time, democratically?

Territories Seized from Qajar Iran and Handed to Afghanistan
During the 19th century, Imperial Russia seized several Persian (Qajar Iran) territories in Central Asia.
Farah, Nimruz, Herat, and Badghis had long been contested zones between Persia and Afghanistan.
The Treaty of Akhal (1881) and Russian expansion allowed Russia to carve up northwestern Iranian territories and helped define the boundaries of modern Afghanistan, often at Persia’s expense.
Example:
In the 1857 Treaty of Paris, Persia was forced to give up claims to Herat (previously held by the Qajars), which later became part of Afghanistan’s western frontier.
The Persian Qajars lost control over Sistan, which was split between British Baluchistan and Afghan Sistan through British-Russian negotiations, without Persian consent.

If possible, please write underline in Persian as well because most of our people don’t know English well , This information that you collect with historical documents will be useful for everyone, especially our Farsiwan Tajiks . Or you can create another page and speak in Persian. This is a suggestion 👑✌️😊

Afghanistan as a state formed in 17th century after expulsion of Safavids. In 1857 i think Herat became part of afghanistan as iran sighned a treaty with Britain. Herat belonged to iran. Brutain played vital role in demarcation of the region. Kpk became part of british india and britain helped abdur rehman capture North of Afghanistan and cancelled the autonomy of central afghanistan hencec the genocide of hazaras.

2 The Persian language originated in the region of Fars (Persia) in southwestern Iran. As an Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European family, it evolved through three main stages: Old Persian (Achaemenid Empire, 6th-4th century BCE), Middle Persian (Sasanian Empire, 3rd-10th century CE), and New/Modern Persian (9th century-present).
