Seeing a lot of misinformation in the comments. Completing Benharts quest does not give you a better version of the Blue Moon Greatsword. It being a fake is referring to it being a replica of the Moonlight Greatsword which you get from the Old Paledrake soul.

If u complete his side quest u can get his sword with the power of the moon with it. But if u kill him and take his sword it turn into just a plain sword with no magical powers
