The black hole itself does not emit light, but if a companion star is nearby, it can pull matter from it, forming what is known as an accretion disk — a ring of extremely hot gas that emits powerful X-rays due to its high temperature. Astronomers detect such systems primarily through this radiation; one of the most well-known examples is Cygnus X-1, where a black hole actively accretes matter from a massive companion star. In theory, planets could also exist in such systems: if they are far enough away, their orbits may remain stable, but the conditions would be extremely hostile due to intense X-ray radiation and gravitational disturbances.
