This is the Manao Dance Festival (known as "Manau" in the Jingpo language) in Yunnan, China. It is the most grand and representative traditional ethnic festival and dance of the Jingpo people in the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. In 2006, it was inscribed on the first list of China’s national intangible cultural heritage. The Jingpo people have a long history — their ancestors originated from the ancient Di-Qiang tribes in the southern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Since the Tang Dynasty, they gradually migrated southward along the Hengduan Mountains into western Yunnan, making them a true member of China’s big ethnic family. The core highlight of the event is the mass dance of tens of thousands of people: "Manao" means "everyone come dance together" or "gathering to sing and dance". During the festival, tens of thousands of participants in colorful traditional costumes form a long, winding dragon as they dance to the rhythmic beats of the iconic "Manao March". The scene is spectacular. The festival is held annually around the 15th to 17th day of the first lunar month, marking the grandest carnival of the year for the Jingpo people.
