Canada geese are protected in both the United States and Canada under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. It is illegal to kill, harm, trap, or possess them, or to disturb their nests and eggs without a federal permit. Violations can result in heavy fines (up to \(\$15,000\)+), jail time, or felony charges.

I cried over lost goose eggs after a storm flooded the local lake. I've never been harassed by Canada geese. There was no reason to do that, laws or not.
