@calmmoneycoach: The Canada Pension Plan is one of the most successful public policy stories in Canadian history. And it never gets framed that way. In 1999 CPP Investments was handed $12 million dollars. Today it manages $780 billion. $543 billion of that came from investment returns. Most Canadians still think it’s broken. A Ponzi scheme. About to run out. None of that is true. The story most people don’t know: → Built in 1965 with the stated purpose of letting Canadians retire with dignity. → Almost died in the 1990s. The Chief Actuary projected the contribution rate would have to climb above 14 percent. → Saved by the 1997 reforms. Pearson’s original pay-as-you-go design was rebuilt as a partially funded model with an arm’s length investment manager. → Now sustainable for 75 years per the 32nd Actuarial Report tabled December 2025. → Mercer’s 2025 Pension Index ranks Canada above the US and Germany. The legitimate critique: younger workers get a lower real return than their parents did. Around 2 percent vs 3.6 percent for Boomers per Fraser Institute. That gap is real. But less generous isn’t the same as broken. Full breakdown in the community guide. #CanadaPensionPlan #CPP #PersonalFinanceCanada #RetirementCanada #CalmMoneyCoach

it's nice to hear something good about our current system. Most of the news is always negative and it gets depressing

I think CPP is great but as someone in finance I wish I could opt out and waive all pension eligibility in order to invest it myself

Unfortunately whoever is managing the CPP investments need to really reassess their approach as they're underperforming

The ones who lose are those who die before being able to collect or shortly after starting to collect.

This is good news, far better than I expected after being told in high school not to count on getting anything out of my contributions. Must have been the mid-90s when I was told this...

Why is my monthly payment so low? I’ve been paying into it since I was in my late teens.

I see people everyday who didn’t set anything aside when they were younger only to fall back on CPP to keep them afloat.. I’m very grateful it exists
