@dollartreedinners: Homemade sushi can feel expensive at first, so in this first episode I’m sharing my “splurge or save” guide after 6 months of learning. Save on things like rice and seafood (yes, frozen and cooked options work great), but splurge on a few ingredients that really impact flavor like Kewpie mayo. I also go over the basics you do need on hand like nori, rice vinegar, veggies, and sriracha, plus why I recommend starting with simple rolls like California rolls before branching out. The goal is to learn the process without spending a ton upfront. Next up: the prep stage. #SushiMaking #HomemadeSushi #SushiTutorial #CookingTips #BudgetMeals

I know its a bigger expense for this channel, but you can get 50 pounds of sushi rice at Costco for $30 at Costco - that's 60 cents per pound! We use it for all of our rice dishes and a bag lasts us 2-3 years

As my mamma would say: If you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say anything. The lady here knows how to make sushi, she's showing us all in a more affordable way, is it authentic? No!!! But that's not the point. People with lower budgets deserve to treat themselves too! You're all here talking about how the rice is not it or how you are using more common ingredients, like you all invented sushi! I for one am grateful for the content as it can be an inspiration for those who want take out but can't afford it, THANK YOU REBECCA 💕✨

Rice instantly looked off to me it makes a big difference. If you have an Asian supermarket near you you can probably get a big bag of short grain/sushi rice for cheap

Wait. What are these comments? This page is for recipes on any budget. If you prefer a different brand that’s great, but this is the type/brand many people would like to use to make this. To R, thank you SO much for continuing to create different dishes that some might not think are possible. You are so appreciated. I’m pretty sure they are bots, but if not they are just as completely out of touch and tone deaf. A lot of people would never think to make sushi at home, or that they can. Love all the different ideas!

So the reason why it’s sushi rice is because it’s short grain so even if you use jasmine rice, it’s way easier than using long grain rice

When I was a poor student I didn't have the budget for kewpie mayo, substituting it with normal mayo+white vinegar+corn syrup/simple syrup worked pretty well for me!

I understand not buying sushi rice but consider, instead of regular long grain, buy short grain regular rice! I guarantee the texture is veeery similar to sushi rice

Frozen seafood is the way to go unless you buy sushi grade fresh. Most you get in a restaurant is flash frozen because of parasites

interesting! I've always made the choice to splurge on sushi rice and save on regular mayo, but maybe I'll try it the other way around
