@squatuniversity: Go watch Dr. McGills lecture on YouTube “Can A Disc Heal, Adapt, Or Be Managed?” Context matters. Science > memes. . There’s a lot of “internet personalities” that completely misrepresent Dr. McGills work on the spine. Rarely have any of them ever fully read his work or comprehended it. You’ll notice them in the comments section below. 🤷🏼 . This lecture explains the details & context that most miss. #jeffersoncurl #physicaltherapy #physio #physiotherapy #chiropractor
ah this is where I completely disagree with squat university, it's actually the only thing I disagree with them, the disc can fully heal like pre-injury that is a definite possibility and it's actually by doing the exercises that caused the injury in the first place, but with very little load or no load at all and gradually increasing and also back extension machine and absolute life saver, this comes from someone with 3.5 years of experience with sciatica

I was doing bent over rows about a year and a half ago when my back popped loudly and it hurt so I just didn’t lift and it turned out fine in 2 weeks idk if I shouldn’t be doing spinal flexion exercises now because of that

You always leave the TFL out of the equation, yes the back muscles don't help in end range but the thoracolumbar fascia picks up the slack. Doesn't mean you should go super heavy, but is a great way to train the whole back fascia. Or everything you bend to pick something on your day to day you are going to hinge and have a straight back like a deadlift?

Focusing too much on disc here, it is considered non-specific so let’s treat it as such. Using language like “protect your discs” would not be encouraging to many people. And as you know, our back is stronger than you think.

Such a polarizing topic. I’m just not sure how anyone argues against the “context” is key part. Isn’t that the whole point of training and rehab?

My personal experience would disagree but one testimony doesn’t prove anything, still thankful for the people that are actively conducting research on the spine, information is king, cheers !

Only things like zercher variations and more so still an overall spinal isometric hinge movement is the best. Like a zercher goodmorning, squat, overcoming isometric variations

But did they also test people that had a damaged disc without pain? Pain isn’t that well correlated with a damaged disc…

I injured my disc over a year ago, L4-L5 disc dehydration. Instead of resting I focused on flexibility and strength training and now I am almost pain free, than god as well, I can also perform spinal flexion without pain, it feels good actually
