@williamconrad_: We failed her. We loved her. We tried. We were not the right home for her. There is a lot of shame in that. Also a lot of grief. Our house feels empty. Everything reminds us of her. We did not rehome her because it was easy. We rehomed her because keeping her would have been about our ego, not her life. She deserved better than us trying to make it work. She deserved the right home. This experience gave me more respect for people who adopt. It is not simple. It is not just having a good heart. It is structure, experience, consistency, and a kind of emotional resilience that I don’t think we fully understood until now. We were naive. We will always love her.
