my grandpa said "treat someone, everyone, as though they are fully capable -- then adjust as needed to help them keep their humanity" he worked in the psych wards in California and helped some rehabilitation simply by treating them kindly and with expectations they had never had before.

As someone with an auditory processing disorder, I’ve always said this… Just because I was being rude doesn’t mean I intended to be. If I was WRONG, I’ll apologize. However, that doesn’t give me and anyone the permission to be rude to people simply cause we don’t agree or want to understand.

I missed most of school because of anxiety and rather than accommodate me I just didn't graduate, the obvious consequence. I had to work really hard to get into university later in life and its a very big part of why and how I got better.
