GenX here. But she didn’t want her camera on and also is not required per her contract to have it on. There is no reason for it to be on. Boss shouldn’t have asked her to turn it on. I do understand, agree, and like what you’re saying otherwise.

As a a Gen X member of the corporate world I love this so much but try to advocate for the older generations to be more understanding of Gen Z’s perspective and lived experience. It goes both ways and our generations owe you the same respect as well. We can both change and learn from each other!

I am a boomer. When I was young, I disliked all the rules that had to be followed. (Example: school dress code) I realized as I got older that what I was being taught is that sometimes you have to conform to society’s expectations. I think that some of what you are talking about has happened because we don’t demand that kids learn this anymore. I don’t think it is completely fair to blame young people who are acting the way they were allowed. Just my opinion.

As a Gen Z i am entitled to my time outside of work, my 30 minute uninterrupted lunch break, basic respect from my cohort, and doing the work that is within my job contract. I work my 40 hours and do what I was hired to, anything more than that is doing the company a favor (which is not entirely out of the question, it depends on how I am treated). If I can have those things and basic respect from my peers and superiors then we’re good to go. I have yet to struggle to get a job or do well in the workplace.
