@jessicavanel: Customer Service is already a tricky enough thing… Let’s not complicate it by being on our phones, please. 😭 #storytime #talesfromthefrontdesk #frontdesklife
No service till you're off the phone should be standard policy in all hospitality

When I worked in retail and a customer came up talking on their phone I just waited patiently until they realized their order was being processed when I would say "Oh, interrupting your conversation would be rude so I'll just wait until you're done". They ALWAYS looked embarrassed and gave me their full attention.

It’s surprising the number of people who walk around without a driver’s license or anyway to pay for anything other than with their phones. Also, the amount of people who want to check out while on the phone so you don’t know if they are talking to you or who’s on the phone.

As a former criminal, those rules are in place because I bought your card information off the dark web, and stayed in hotels all over the country. Like 500 account numbers for $100 type shit. Racked up probably a good $50k over 2 years time.

We had a guest about a month ago, she and her kid came to check in "hi we have a reservation under xy-name, but i forgot my card at work"... uhm, i guess its not THAT big of a deal, if you are still able to pay 100% cash. "well i'm not sure if i have enough on me". i do need 100% payment upfront before i am allowed to check you in, otherwise management is going to be mad at ME and will let me pay for YOUR 500€ stay, which i do not want to and will not be going to do. So as long as i don't get the payment from you, i will not give you the keys. "That is ridiculous, can't you just send me the invoice later? Or let me pay via online banking?" - No. Bc 1. Still: management gonna be pissed at ME. 2. it's friday evening, you check out on sunday. There is no bank that will process that online banking within a few minutes, nor is there ANY way, for us to check if it already arrived (our management who has acces to the banking stuff is 100km away and noboby is there on weekends...)

I work in hospitality and I usually start dealing with the person behind them in the queue, that seems to get their attention 😂

I had one not too long ago that started out just like this, on her phone for the first like 2 full minutes. but I got to be a little more direct with her 😁 when I explained we had an early check-in fee she was like "oh I guess it means nothing that I just spent $200 at your spa" with the eye roll to match. which gave me the opening to directly say "ma'am, I don't know how I would've known that considering you haven't spoken one word to me." felt real good

I work front desk in a medical facility. It amazes me how often people try and check in w/o ending their phone call first. i'm not a mind reader. I don't automatically know who you are, the appointment you're there for, what your insurance is... any of the things I HAVE to clarify before I can actually check you in for your appointment. And the huffs and Eyerolls are unbelievable some days.

Why would anyone travel without they card? It’s one thing to only have a phone for stuff around home but you don’t travel without it

I worked in a grocery store that had a rewards card, so I always asked for the card at the beginning of the transaction, but it can be done at any point during the transaction. I asked multiple times only to be ignored because her phone call was too important. She pays and then says "Here's my rewards card" 🙄

When I first read the title, my mind went "She needs to put her phone down to pay with her e-wallet or QR code". I forgot this is not the norm where you are 😅 Love your stories btw ❤️

At the same time scammers will pretend to be in the phone in hopes the person they are trying to scam won’t talk to them.

In Australia we rarely have to give a physical card … checking into a hotel on a call is rude to both parties

This happened to me for a NYE trip to Times Square that took me months to plan so I would have a hotel room. Was I bummed, yes. Did I behave like an adult, also yes. I too, waited for my husband who came in later. Lesson learned. 😁

years ago my Grandma was going on a cruise with us and did not bring her ID. she thought the photo on the back of her credit card would be enough. she couldn't get on the cruise and there's no refund for that. thankfully her sister lived nearby for her to stay with or she would've had to find a way to get back home 6 hours away.
