Marine bio here. evolution is stupid. it's not what is the most reasonable thing, it's what is the easiest way to go from what we have to what we need evolution isn't going to reinvent the Fish, it's going to take a system that already works and just mush it around till it gets that C- grade in a few million years it will fix the bugs but if it ain't broke evolution won't fix it

I majored in bio! Basically how it kinda works is that evolution doesn’t go for what’s actually optimal, it only cares if that organism can survive long enough to reproduce. If that organism has an advantageous trait, it’ll be selected for, because less of them die before they reproduce. The trait becomes more prevalent, until it’s eventually commonplace. The logistics of how that trait came to be don’t really matter, which is why some animals have really ridiculous designs and life cycles XD (this is a great video btw!! Can’t wait to see more of the series!)
