Fort Worth just advanced a potential $10 billion data center campus, but this vote was a lot more complicated than simply approving a brand-new project. Fort Worth City Council voted 7-4 to approve a revised plan covering approximately 187 acres in southeast Fort Worth near Forest Hill and Everman. The latest version includes four massive data center buildings, a dedicated electrical substation and structures reaching up to 70 feet tall. Council also added a new requirement that keeps the data center buildings at least 300 feet from neighboring residential property lines. And the project has changed significantly. An earlier concept showed 18 buildings totaling roughly 3 million square feet. The newest plan consolidates the campus into just four much larger buildings with a combined ground footprint of a little more than 1 million square feet. We also finally know who is behind it. EdgeConneX publicly confirmed it will be the developer and operator of the campus. But here’s where this gets complicated. Fort Worth is simultaneously considering a moratorium on new data centers as the city reevaluates its rules surrounding noise, water, electricity demand and proximity to neighborhoods. This project, however, received its underlying zoning in 2025, and city officials say it has already progressed too far to be treated like a brand-new application. That creates a much bigger question as DFW continues seeing billions of dollars in proposed data center investment. If a project already has development rights but the city is now reconsidering its rules, should it be allowed to move forward under the old standards or be required to meet the new ones? #FortWorthTX #DataCenters #EdgeConneX #DFWGrowth #DevelopingDFW
