I think knocking a paper map is a bit of misstep, it’s a pretty imperative piece of safety gear for if/when electronics fail.

You lost all credibility to me when you knocked a paper map. Phones run on batteries and they die. A paper map never dies, and weighs almost nothing. Paper maps can be just as detailed and learning to use one is an important skill that will save your life.

You should never ever rely solely on an electronic for maps. ALWAYS have a physical map. Electronics, even ones made for the outdoors, can still get damaged or lost.

its almost like he's new and having options will let him learn which items he will want for the next hike....it would be such a disservice to him to just follow what others have done and not decide if that is actually something he wants for his backpacking trips. long time follower, but the tone of these videos has been a bit offputting

Extra cloths incase you get wet. Loo roll for comfort a thick pad to get good sleep and a paper map because it can’t run out of battery. I think he’s done well

Agree with all of it but I would never go hiking or camping without a paper map. Never can trust that your phone won’t break or die. Plus the paper weighs next to nothing so who cares honestly
