This competition was a special one for me. It was my first tournament since deciding to move back home, and my first time competing in jiu-jitsu again after almost a year away from the sport. My last competition was in Spain, and this was also my very first ADCC event. Honestly, the whole thing was kind of crazy. I signed up only a month before the competition and had to cut my weight from 84 kg down to as close to 70 kg as possible. Then, just one week before the event, I got the flu and couldn't train. On top of that, I injured my knee after tripping and falling. It felt like one thing after another. But somehow, I still made it to the competition. I definitely wasn't as prepared as some of the other athletes, but I've never really been competing against anyone except myself. This time, I came home with two silver medals — one from my division and one from the absolute division. I'm proud of myself for showing up and fighting through every single match. Originally, there were only two people in my bracket, but on competition day they moved us from Beginner to Intermediate and merged in more competitors at the last minute. At the end of the day, every competition is a win for me because I beat the person I was yesterday 😂 I also got the chance to meet some amazing people, make new friends, and be surrounded by athletes I really admire. So thank you to myself for being stubborn enough to keep going until the very last match. Thank you to my coach for never listening whenever I complained that I was tired and for basically telling me to shut up and keep going 🤫💀😂 And finally, thank you to my girl who rushed over to help me open a bathroom door, because otherwise I have no idea how long I would've been trapped in there.
